Tuition Statement

By January 31st, 妻友社区 will be electronically delivering IRS 1098-T forms. The 1098-T form, also referred to as the 鈥淭uition Statement鈥, is used to assist you, the taxpayer, in determining if you are eligible for a federal education tax credit.

The Financial Responsibility Agreement states that 妻友社区 will deliver your 1098-T electronically. This agreement is presented to students upon logging in to your MyGeorgiaSouthern portal and requires an electronic signature in exchange for the opportunity to enroll in courses. The Financial Responsibility Agreement is a legally binding agreement.

To view your consent status please follow these steps:

  1. 听Log in to My.GeorgiaSouthern.edu
  2. 听Select Student Dashboard under 鈥淪ervices鈥 on the left
  3. 听On the bottom left-hand portion of the page under 鈥淪tudent Account Checklist鈥, you will see a green checkmark if you gave consent to receive your 1098-T Form electronically

妻友社区 offers two options for viewing your 1098-T information: WINGS and www.TSC1098T.com

1. WINGS 鈥 Presents a representation of your 1098-T Form, itemizes box calculations, and provides a helpful reconciliation tool.

  • Go to My.GeorgiaSouthern.edu and log in
  • In the WINGS Section (under MyApps section), click the Student Information icon
  • Scroll down to the Student Accounts section
  • Click Tax Notification (1098-T)
  • Select the tax year

2. www.TSC1098T.com 鈥 TAB Service Company, provides students with an official PDF format for submission to tax professionals.

Follow the instructions below to log into TAB:

  • Enter the Site ID:听11514
  • 鲍蝉别谤苍补尘别:听GA Southern Student ID Number (9-digit Eagle ID Number)
  • 笔补蝉蝉飞辞谤诲:听Last 4 digits of your SSN听(FOR FIRST TIME USERS ONLY听鈥 You will be prompted to change your password at your first login). The new password must be at least 8 characters and contain at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, one numeric character and one special character. This will be your new password for future logon attempts. The last 4 digits of your SSN will no longer work.
  • If you are a returning user and have forgotten your password, please click on the Forgot Password link and an email will be sent to your student email address. If there is no email address on file with TAB Service Company, then you will receive a message stating no information found.

If you need to use the Lost Site ID/Username functions at www.TSC1098T.com, please note that you must enter your student email address to retrieve lost information. Your email address is viewable in WINGS under Personal Information, View Email Address(es).

Institutions of higher education are mandated, as of tax year 2018, to report payments received (Box 1) to the IRS.

As of tax year 2018, Box 2 reporting is no longer permissible under federal law.

Eligible or qualified charges are any in-state or out-of-state tuition charges plus the following fees: athletic, athletic facility, recreation activity center, student activity, student center, technology, sustainability, USG institutional, course fees, and testing fees.

As of tax year 2018, federal law mandates that eligible or qualified charges be calculated and used to cap your payments received amount in Box 1.

Non-qualified charges include, but are not limited to, the following: books, housing, meal plans, health fees, insurance, or any transportation and/or parking fees or costs.

Calendar/Tax year (January 1st-December 31st).

To simplify reporting and to promote the best customer service for students and their families, the University contracted with TAB Service Company. In addition to electronically delivering forms, TAB hosts the www.TSC1098T.com website. Note, however; that the filer鈥檚 information (name, address, telephone number, and federal identification number) on your form all pertain to 妻友社区.

Students must make all information requests. The student is responsible for providing information to other parties in accordance with FERPA (Family Education Right to Privacy Act).

The University can鈥檛 provide tax advice. You can contact the IRS by phone or through their听听to ask questions.

Yes. Section听听of the Internal Revenue Code, as enacted by the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997, requires institutions to file information returns to assist taxpayers and the Internal Revenue Service in determining eligibility for the American Opportunity and Lifetime Learning education tax credits. The annual deadline to file the required tax information electronically is March 31, although data may be transmitted earlier as circumstances allow.

There is no requirement for the 1098-T to be attached along with your tax return. This document may be kept for your personal records.

The student鈥檚 active address listed in WINGS will populate on the 1098-T form. If your 1098-T Form doesn鈥檛 have or reflects the wrong address, please make sure all information in WINGS is currently up-to-date. You can update address information in WINGS by clicking:

*FOR STUDENTS WITH NO ADDRESS ON THEIR 1098-T*
Contact the Bursar鈥檚 Office after you have updated your address in WINGS. A 1098-T form will not be reissued unless authorized by the Bursar鈥檚 Office. You may view and print your updated record at www.TSC1098T.com. The updated 1098-T will not be mailed. An updated copy will be sent by TAB to the IRS.

Reporting to the IRS depends primarily on your SSN. It is very important for you to have the correct information on file with the University. To correct the 1098-T generated:

  1. Provide the Bursar鈥檚 Office your valid SSN (copy of your social security card) in person or by certified mail.

A 1098-T form will not be reissued unless authorized by the Bursar鈥檚 Office. You may view and print your updated record at www.TSC1098T.com. The updated 1098-T will not be mailed. An updated copy will be sent by TAB to the IRS.

A 1098-T form will not be reissued unless authorized by the Bursar鈥檚 Office. You may view and print your updated record at www.TSC1098T.com.  The updated 1098-T will not be mailed. An updated copy will be sent by TAB to the IRS.

The IRS does not require forms to be filed for any student coded as a non-resident alien. However, forms are available upon request.听To request a form, please send an email to bursar@georgiasouthern.edu and use email subject 鈥淣RA{Insert Year} 1098-T Request鈥.听We will process your form within 15 business days and TAB will transmit to the IRS. Paper forms will not be mailed, but will be made available online at听

You will need to complete form TL11A (Tuition, Education, and Textbook Amounts Certificate 鈥 University Outside Canada). Please bring this form to the Student Accounts Office so that we can complete the educational institution portion of the form.

Prior Armstrong Students

Tax Year 2017 and Before: Submit your request via email at bursar@georgiasouthern.edu and use email subject 鈥淎rmstrong Campus {Insert Year} 1098-T Request鈥

The form will be mailed to your active address on file.

Health and Transit fees are non-qualified and are not included in the calculation for charges billed on the 1098-T form. Due to the changes in the set up of the Online Learning Fee, Health and/or Transit fees are
excluded from the calculation by prorating those fees out thus causing a variance in the amount billed and the amount shown on the face of the form
